The Learning Commons is staffed by the Educational Technology team, which consists of the Library Media Specialist and the Instructional Technology Specialist, as well as the Library Media Assistant.
Library Media Specialist
Heather Thomas has been the Library Media Specialist at Alanton Elementary since 2010. She loves integrating language arts and research skills with technology to enhance lessons. Prior to coming to Alanton, she was a first grade teacher at Cooke Elementary. She was Teacher of the Year in 2013 and City-Wide Reading Teacher of the Year in 2016. Mrs. Thomas is a product of VBCPS and attended Alanton Elementary as a child and graduated from First Colonial High School. It gives her great pride to work at a school where she once attended.

Library Media Assistant
Instructional Technology Specialist
Fara Faust is our Instructional Technology Specialist and has been at Alanton since 2015. This is her 10th year in the position. She has an extensive background in special education. Ms. Faust lends her expertise to other educators by presenting at local and state conferences. She has written and been awarded numerous grants that have greatly enhanced our school's MakerSpace. She is a two-time former Teacher of the Year. Although Ms. Faust has been with Virginia Beach for many years, she originates from the great state of Tennessee.

Kim Nolette has been our Library Media Assistant since 2016 and has been with Alanton in many capacities for eleven years. Prior to that, Mrs. Nolette was very active in our PTA even serving as PTA President. She is a former Teacher Assistant of the Year. Mrs. Nolette has a degree in graphic design and uses her artistic talent throughout our building and at many school events. She has been a Virginia Beach resident for many years but originates from Massachusetts.
