MakerSpace is a place that fosters students' creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration skills.
MakerSpaces provide hands-on, creative ways to encourage students to design, experiment, build and invent as they deeply engage in science, engineering and tinkering.
Much of our school's MakerSpace is funded through grants from the Virginia Beach Education Foundation.
What's Happening in the Learning Commons?
The library media specialist covers all curriculum content but specializes in integrating technology and research into digital media, information literacy, and digital citizenship lessons. The LMS collaborates monthly with teachers to help enhance curriculum content with technology and media.
Our library is open on a flexible schedule. Students can check out anytime during the school day. Students may check out books for up to two weeks and are not charged for overdue books. A fine is only assessed for lost or damaged books. If a student owes for a lost or damaged book, please send in exact cash or a check made payable to Alanton Elementary School.
Our library has transitioned to a Learning Commons! A Learning Commons is a multi-purpose space that incorporates MakerSpace, technology, small and large group instruction and collaboration, as well as, library book checkouts. Alanton Elementary is one of fifteen schools in VBCPS to receive this amazing renovation grant. Our space is ready for the students, staff, and community to enjoy.
